 If
your company exports goods with a value of more than
$2,500 to anywhere other than Canada, you need to
be completing and submitting a Shipper's Export Declaration
(SED) with your export shipments. The U.S. Census
Bureau and U.S. Customs & Border Protection
require the SED to calculate export statistics and
ensure compliance with U.S. export regulations.
While previously you could file the SED on paper, new
Federal Trade Regulations went into effect on July
2, 2008, requiring all exporters to stop using the
paper SED and begin filing that information electronically
through the Automated Export System (AES). Companies
have until September 30, 2008 to comply.
